About the event

In this concise yet impactful workshop, a member of our team will present an overview of SCC's approach to enhancing the capacity of professionals in responding to families. Our focus is on building trust, preventing and repairing harm, and promoting health, healing, and overall well-being.

Throughout the workshop, professionals will gain valuable insights and practical strategies that can be immediately applied in their interactions with families. The key areas we will cover include:

  • Trust-Building: Professionals will learn effective techniques for establishing and nurturing trust with families. Through interactive discussions and real-life examples, participants will explore the importance of active listening, empathy, cultural competence, and respect for diverse perspectives. These skills are vital for creating a foundation of trust within professional-family relationships.

  • Harm Prevention: Participants will acquire proactive approaches to identify and address potential risks and challenges that families may encounter. By understanding early warning signs and implementing preventive strategies, professionals can intervene early and minimize the occurrence of harm. This proactive stance aims to create a safe and supportive environment for families.

  • Harm Repair: The workshop will provide professionals with practical tools and restorative practices to address instances where harm has occurred. Participants will learn how to engage in open and empathetic dialogue, acknowledge the impact of harm, and collaborate with families to find solutions. This approach facilitates healing, rebuilding trust, and strengthening the bond between professionals and families.

  • Health Promotion: Professionals will explore holistic approaches to promoting the health and well-being of families. The workshop will emphasize strengths-based perspectives, encouraging professionals to identify and leverage the existing strengths and resources within families. By adopting this approach, professionals can empower families to take an active role in their own healing and well-being.

This short workshop is designed to provide professionals with a concise yet comprehensive overview of SCC's approach. By equipping participants with practical skills and knowledge, we aim to enhance their capacity to respond to families in ways that foster trust, prevent harm, repair damage, and promote the health, healing, and overall well-being of all involved.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. We acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who live, work and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory. Finally, we remain committed to continue to learn about the truth regarding Colonialism and residential schools in Canada, and will actively work towards reconciliation while advocating for our government to do so as well.
